Day 52 – October 9th
Posted by TravellingStrom on October 9, 2008
The room cost included a continental breakfast which was quite filling, the place was a bit run down but clean and biker friendly. It was called the West Darling Hotel for those intending going through that way.
I got away quite early for this area around 8am and headed south to Mildura but not long after leaving, in the middle of nowhere was Ned Kelly, no gang, just himself 🙂
The ride was a bit boring as it was flat and nearly straight. I fuelled up in Mildura then stopped just outside at a rest stop where I had shared a piece of cake with this bird I met, quite cute too 🙂
There were a lot of vines down this way because it is an area called Sunrayser, spelt wrong I know, but it is famous for its sultanas and currants and other dried fruits.
I had some time up my sleeve and needed to check some emails, so after checking out the visitor centre in Swan Hill, I was directed to the community education centre where they had extremely fast broadband for $1.50 an hour. I only had time for an hour as they closed at 4pm, but managed quite a bit in that time. Sadly I have had no response from the two firms about my faulty equipment, I hope the emails did not go straight to their spam folders, it is likely though. I resent them and will check in a day or so. If anyone needs fast internet go to this church in Swan Hill, unplug one of the PCs and connect your laptop, the room is behind the church out back.
I still had some distance to travel and I wanted to cover as much as possible with just a few hundred kms for the next day. I settled on a place called Echuca as my goal and rolled in there about 5.30pm, but the caravan parks were a rip off, they wanted $30-40 and had no kitchen, so I left and continued south as it was still quite light. I got as far as Shepparton and eventually found a caravan park just on dark at a small place called Mooroopna. I got my tent up and had a quick shower as it started to get very cold by now and before long it was freezing, so as I was tired I crashed early.
Day – 817km
Trip – 18,783km
