Day 69 – 26th October

Posted by TravellingStrom on October 26, 2008

It was a lazy start to the day, Dan had hooked me up with his internet as he had heaps of limits available, so I managed to catch up on some things that needed seeing to, which was great, thanks for that. My wireless system worked fine, but he said he had more than he needed atm. After a nice and very filling pancake breakfast it was time to get ready, which is when Justin on the KLR and Phil on a Vstrom turned up, Phil had his daughter Cheyenne as pillion, excuse the spelling 🙂 Tracy was planning on taking some photos on the highway as we went passed, but the route was different, so her and Josh the son would meet us at Margate.

We headed off via the very hilly and winding roads through the suburbs of Hobart down the coast towards Margate, that is Dan leading and Justin in front. Phil had gone to find Tracey.

It was only a 30 minute ride to Margate where we stopped at the Steam train exhibit and museum, there is no track anymore, the two kids were playing engine drivers 🙂

We had a stop at Oyster Cove for a look, this is where Dan and others come for a nights camping, the view across is of the ferry to Bruny Island.

We continued on right to the end of the point where the road turned to gravel, it was not too bad but a bit slippery in patches.

Then around towards Cygnet we stopped and Dan said across there somewhere is where Phil and Tracey had bought their land, it looked like a nice view.

The ride continued with more twisty windy roads before we stopped to decide on the lunch venue.

We decided to have a look at the block of land first and I must say this is a scary driveway, nearly straight up a dirt road with a few dips in it just to make it interesting, a bit slippery at times so I am glad most of my gear was at Dans house 🙂 This is the road looking down, I had no time on the way up and this is only the first bit, it goes nearly a km.

And once up top the views are spectacular although building on here will be a challenge 🙂

The ride home was mainly along a very fast freeway system as the weather had turned coolish and the range road may have been wet. I took a few shots while moving, but Justin would not stay in the right spot long enough, so his bike dips out.

The family headed their own separate ways as did Justin, while we stopped to grab some tucker and headed back.

After that some more time spent catching up on the blog which is becoming hard work when it is this far behind. Dan picked up Ann his wife from the airport and after a nice dinner, they retired as they had work the next day, quite early in Dans case. I stayed up and caught up on the blog a bit while watching the Aussies trounce the Kiwis in the rugby league 🙂

Sorry kids for getting the names wrong, as you can see I have fixed it thanks to Tracey 🙂

Day – 266km
