Day 101 – 27th November

Posted by TravellingStrom on November 27, 2008

It was a glorious day, the sun was out and it was warming up nicely as I packed the bike.

I was heading to Queensland today, you beauty 🙂 I intended heading east to Ebor then north through Grafton, Casino and then maybe stay somewhere near Rathdowney in Qld. Nothing concrete, but around that area would be good enough for me.

The roads were nice and fast, nothing technical, just smooth fast sweepers.

I got into a place called Ebor around 11am and it was cold, it really dropped down, so I decided to stop for a snack and add the extra liners. It was very busy here, it turns out they were shooting a tourism commercial and were just in the process of packing up. One of the chaps called Simon had a chat with me, he has quite a few bikes himself, but all dirt bikes. I had a great burger 🙂

After the break it was on again towards Grafton, the roads narrowed and became more fun 🙂

Grafton to Casino was a pretty fast section, then after that north to Kyogle was getting better.

After that I decided I would stay south of the border as I had all day tomorrow to cross over and do some great roads up that way, so where do I go for tonight? I had a contact in Ballina from the Ulysses club, but I was not sure about timing and arriving unannounced, so I started by heading to Nimbin, the drug capital and hippy commune, just for a look see. The roads were nice up this way, better and better the further I went into the mountains.

After Nimbin, I did not stop but looked at the weirdos as I rode through 🙂 I kept going west through Kunghur and Uki and ended up in Murwillumbah late in the afternoon and decided to stop there.

This gave me the launching point for tomorrows riding as one of the 100 best roads start from here heading north.

The campsite was basic no camp kitchen as such, so it was basic rations for dinner, Chicken Crimpy and beer nuts, carbs and protein 🙂 I had a relaxing evening and had an early night as my first taste of mossies for a long time drove me into the tent, so it was easy to fall asleep. Of course, it rained during the night.

Day – 448km
Trip – 31,643km
