Day 328 – 1st November 09
Posted by TravellingStrom on November 1, 2009
Sunday – Antigua, Guatemala
I stayed another day, I still had the remains of a wog and was a bit tired to boot in the legs and of course after last night. It was OK for me to stay with the family, but I found out later a new student was arriving at 6 that evening so I would have to shift all my gear back to the parents place where I had stayed on my arrival. I was thinking of making a move this morning, but in the end I had no choice as my clothes had been washed and I had no idea where they were and the family had gone out! 😦 So I spent the morning working on the blog, trying to get up to date, but later on I headed out for some lunch/breakfast, as on Sundays, food is not provided. I also grabbed some cash as I may need more for the border crossing and fuel etc for the next day.
I checked out the artesians market building on the way back and this place is chocka full of hand made goods, very colourful as well as antiques:) It also had second hand books so I searched for a while but I had no luck finding a lonely planet guide to South America, oh well, maybe somewhere else down the track.
The afternoon was a repeat of the morning, tidying up my gear and packing, doing some blog work and except for the fact I had a heap of photos to upload, I had managed to write the text for yesterdayand post two days worth prior to that. In the late afternoon I carted all my gear to the other house and this was great as I now had internet access again, so I spent a fair while uploading the photos of the volcano day and posting that. I met another student living here called Martin from Czechoslovakia who is here for a few months studying before some extended travel with a backpack. It has been bucketing down rain for the past three hours and by the time I was finished it was still going, but I needed food anyway! I walked down and as usual when it is raining, there are no taxis to be seen! I eventually managed to flag down a TukTuk, one of the three wheeled covered bike things and took a rattly ride down to the MonoLoco. It was game 3 or 4 of the baseball and I knew they had good food and I met up with the same group of Americans as before, Greg, Tim Rachael etc. I ended up eating a Fajita Quesdilla with chook, very nice meal and very filling, it is sort of like an enclosed pizza with some stuff to spread over it 🙂
I only stayed until just after 9 as I was going to meet Martin at a bar nearer home, but when I got there, after walking through the light rain, he was not there, so I went home. Here I found I had no key and they had retired for the evening, but lucky for me someone was awake and heard my knock. It was a quiet evening all told, on the road tomorrow and looking forward to riding again , a new country as well, El Salvador 🙂
