I’m So Excited, I’ve Been Converted

Posted by TravellingStrom on August 29, 2025

Nope, not going religious you MoFo’s 🙂

Nope, what I have done is make a choice. Between – Travel or stagnate.

The last, by crikey, 12 years since I returned from overseas has been hazardous to my health! As mentioned in previous posts, buggered knees, heart attack, broken neck from a truck rollover. I would have been safer travelling anywhere overseas rather than on the Bruce Highway in my home state of Queensland.

That’s on any number of wheels, not just 2, or 4. or multi.

So, since I have been back home I have restarted my life, bought a house, bought a job that I really like doing(maxi taxi ) and built a regular wheelchair clientele that I am willing to service. The house I now own, the taxi I also own. I have some spare cash!

So, what to do. Once I realised I cannot pick up a bike that I have dropped, that sort of meant adventure riding was gone, surely, cos I was going to drop my bike in the dirt somewhere. But, as you may have read from the last few posts I looked into a number of different scenarios.

Trikes – Not interested.

Sidecars. Hmm, interested but way too complicated at my age.

And then we come to the Spyders.

I have now made my mind up, I am going 3 wheels. The above beasty will be mine, if all goes well with the purchase. Apparently during the covid time, too many of the above models were brought into the country and then not sold. Which means, this particular model is cheaper, by a fair bit compared to the next years editions, yet to be imported.

Still not cheap, but who cares. Money is for spending right!

I intend to buy this one(from down south in Wooloongong, straight out of the box) and ride it home over a few days. And if the opportunity arises, drop in and see some peeps, who I have met and travelled with previously.

I am already looking and reading about mods that I consider useful, like Aux fuel tanks to extend the range, currently around the 300km mark(or better, to be confirmed). And a trailer, with camper for sleeping rough(with comfort), or wild camping with beer 😉

Progress: I have paid the deposit. I have booked my flight, confirmed Monday 29th September. Apparently the Bike shop is about 500m from the airport, so they will pick me up and they have a very large carpark area, so I can spend some quality time getting used to a totally different beast 🙂

This will be the Monday prior to NRL grand final day. I am thinking spend a day or so winding through back country NSW and work my way north to Queensland. Just to get used to a few things, like where is the “loud” button for the speakers and of course these beasties do not have a clutch, nor a right hand handlebar brake lever. Brakes are all right foot. Also there is no left foot gear change. Gonna be interesting times ahead.

Looking forward to seeing Skillo and Lana again and then Lesley on my travels homewards 🙂
