Day 445 – 26th February 2010

Posted by TravellingStrom on February 26, 2010

Friday – Los Angeles, USA In Flight to Oz

I picked up the car early and although I could have stayed a bit longer, once I am packed, I hate sitting around, so I said my goodbyes to AltF4Enter, Sara and Grace, I had said goodbye to the older kids earlier before they went to school. Thanks for putting me up, it was a pleasure to meet you after all these years and who knows, maybe we will meet up out in the far east in the not too distant future 🙂

So, I headed out past the pyramid casino and along the way took note of the litigious society that is rife over here and I know Oz is not that far behind in suing anyone for anything!

There were more of these all over the place, including on the back of buses etc, but that is a fair example. Another innovation which I saw was the mobile phone towers disguised as palm trees, they nearly get away with it too 🙂

Driving south on the slab was fast and easy, even with no cruise control and I was soon past Mesquite on the Nevada border then through a patch of Joshua trees before passing Zzyzx Rd, I love the sound of that name but have no idea where it comes from, I may have to go back and find out one day 🙂

A bit further down the track I decided to take a diversion as I had some time up my sleeve. I headed out on the old Route 66 again, I had done some of this road further east last year, but had not seen the museum nor picked up any souvenirs, so this time I found the place and checked it out. My little hired hatch is nothing compared to a normal American ute when I parked outside.

After that it was just a fast run down the last 100 mile or so into Los Angeles where I met up with Raceratb again.

He is the chap who makes the speed corrected faces for the speedo and they are spot on. He also looked after my bags while I was wandering around over the past week and now I collected it and then set about repacking the bags to accommodate all my crap and still get within the weight limits. This also included the remodelled shock from Sasquatch 🙂 Thanks for helping out Austin 🙂 After an hour or so chatting I headed off to the airport and handed the car in then sat around LAX for a few hours waiting for my flight. It was on time and at 11.30pm that night we lifted off for Australia, this leg of my Round The World finished, although there was a lot that I had missed, so I had something to go back for down the track 🙂 The flight was going to be boring, apparently they loaded all the March movies into the system and corrupted the database, so that meant no movies, no entertainment of any type except maybe a few games 😦 Lucky I had brought a few books with me and between them and sleep I should get through Saturday allright!

Next stop, Brisbane, home sweet home 🙂

Day –0 miles and km
Trip – 54,042 miles and 86,972 km
