Friday – Cartegena, Colombia
Well, today was another day, hopefully better than yesterday. It started with me getting all my clothes to the laundry for pick up later. As both pairs of shorts were salty and smelly from the boat, that meant wearing my Draggin Jeans, they are very very hot to wear here on the coast.
That done I went over town to the marina to meet Bruce, I had left my cap on board yesterday so he brought it ashore and we spent about an hour chatting, as he was meeting a backpacker who had said she wanted to go to Panama, he now had 4 confirmed and this was the last chance to get paperwork processed. I like Bruce and I think the feeling was mutual. He was taking the boat next year back to the Mediterranean as the other owner wanted to use it there, so there would not be many more crossings before then.
He gave me directions to another market area, called Pie De La Popa, here I found a massive amount of things to buy, but after about an hour or so, I had no luck finding any cameras, nor stickers of the Colombian flag. One thing I was amazed by was a small alleyway of canvas covered stalls, about 10 on each side of the walkway, both sides had seats and tables and were selling food and drinks, no worries there. But, each had a super dooper sound system and were blaring out at full power music, none of it was the same and my ears nearly blew apart walking down there, I cannot believe people could buy a drink and sit down for a short time, let alone sit there all day and work like that!!! I did find some larger hose clamps at a large hardware store, one of the tool tubes had one broken and the ones I bought yesterday were too small. These were half the price and larger, so I took the others back and got my money back, success at last. 🙂
So, after installing that and picking up my clothes and of course I now had to think about packing, but the bike was too far away, I will leave that for the morning before I ride south towards Medillin.
I was supposed to have beer and food with Bruce, V and B but I got an email saying he is stuck on board getting the boat ready for a 5am departure, so I had a quiet feed at a chook joint around the corner and had an early night for a change. On the camera front, they did have some here in the stores but I had heard Cartegena was expensive and Albert from the Barking Dog in Medillin had said there were some huge department stores where I should be able to get what I want. So ends another day without a camera!
