Day 436 – 17th February 2010

Posted by TravellingStrom on February 17, 2010

Wednesday – Buenos Aires, Argentina

I am finally on the move again πŸ™‚

My last day at DakarMotos today, but I was not booked in to the B&B until 3pm, so I had some time to get sorted out and packed up. I had an email from Stephen the bike buyer, he was wondering if the belly pan had been repaired yet, Javier was doing it for him, so I went for a look and I would guess it is still a work in progress πŸ™‚

Yep, totally stripped down, but Javier was busy with other things so I did not disturb him. The backyard was full with five tents and a total of 7 people outside and 3 Aussies inside the β€˜luxury’ bunkhouse but that would change over the next day or so as Ken and Carol were nearly ready to ride as well, which would leave the place Aussie free, until Frankenstein turned up again the next day maybe πŸ™‚

Javier came back from his little parts shopping trip but pushing the bike, he was not happy as he had picked up a nail, so time for a repair!

When he mentioned it had a tube, I of course mentioned this would not have happened with a Vstrom as they had tubeless tyres, you should have seen the look I received, you could cut steel, but it got a laugh πŸ™‚ So, after lunch we grabbed a group shot of the current stayers, the only two missing are the two old German ladies riding two up on a beemer of course! Standing from left to right : Carol, Ken, Philippe, Andy, Maya, Sandra, Javier, Jerome and in front Marcus and myself

Now, this next photo is quite interesting for one reason only, I had seen this bike stripped down in many different ways, but at this time it was actually running and Ken even had riding gear on, not bad after a couple of months crash recovery, safe riding and keep it rubber side down from now on eh πŸ™‚

So, I had organised a taxi for around 2.30 and it arrived and I was soon on my way and leaving my home for the past 3 weeks, see you all later or on the road, nice meeting you all πŸ™‚ (of course they may have just been checking to see that I actually left πŸ™‚ )

It was a half hour ride to the B&B via a massive set of toll booths and the taxi driver assured me most of the main roads are routed though these gates, although it was a cheap toll. We had to ask a cop to find the B&B as he did not know the area, but it was within 10 minutes of the international airport and had a shuttle bus to the terminal.

I had a small scare here as they could not find me on the system, although I had booked the room on Monday. When I mentioned a girl took the call, he said they don’t have girls working there, it is all males, hmmm, now what! It was eventually sorted out after about half an hour, he found out that on that day there was a girl working there who took the call and booked me in under the name Richard Tigre, where she got that from I have no idea but at least it was sorted and I had a bed for the night, I was a tad worried though, I had visions of sleeping on the street on my last night in Buenos Aires πŸ™‚

A basic dinner of a steak sanger and a beer later in the day before an early night. Tomorrow was a 4am wake up and including time zone changes I would not be landing in LA until over 24 hours later, looking forward to that, NOT!

Day –0 miles and km
Trip – 54,042 miles and 86,972 km
