I had a very uncomfortable night sleeping under the gum trees, check out the camp site
The whole area was canopied by these gum trees and the wind I mentioned howled through these overnight. I woke up many times to the crashing of branches and limbs. Anyway I packed up and headed south and west. I had been doing some reading in Lonely Planets guide and decided I would make for the Udara Lava tubes out near Mount Surprise. Because of my limited dirt skills, I decided to stick to mostly bitumen unless the roads were graded 🙂
I saw this creek on the way back, it had cut some good channels through the rock
A couple of views from the ranges
They also had these signs on the way up this range, both directions
I reckon they needed them signs on the road to the cape It was certainly slippery for motorbikes.
I nice view of the wetlands around Lake Mitchell
I arrived in Mareeba just after lunch and saw a shop with WiFi Hotspot. It is at the Mareeba Computer Services in the main street opposite the RSL. It was coin donation only and a 8MB pipeline. Excellent. I spent a number of hours uploading photos and updating my blog before heading down to the Riverside Caravan park and an $8 tentsite. Not too bad, maybe a tad noisy, but otherwise OK>
I had a few beers and a great spag bol down one of the locals, it sure filled me up. Then a few take aways and watched a movie back at the tent.
