Day 438 – 19th February 2010
Posted by TravellingStrom on February 19, 2010
Friday – San Diego, USA
I woke up a bit tired, but raring to go, so after some brekky I grabbed a cab and headed to the airport again and found the Hertz place and wouldn’t you believe it there was another motel about 100m from the car place and the airport, if I had known that I could have saved $50 in cab fares! That is what you get for booking online from a foreign country with no idea on the layout and no phone numbers to call!
But, I managed to get a car and get my GPS loaded up with the next destination, which is an air and space company. Here I met up with a chap from the Vstrom forums who kindly offered to look after my large bag of gear, to save me lugging it through airports etc. Thanks for the help Austin 🙂
Next stop was San Diego and this was only a few hours away down south, so before long after a quick stop for lunch I was amongst the spaghetti junctions and then through them into San Diego proper and heading to Craig’s place!
Once there I found out that my replacement Title for the bike had still not turned up, so I headed off to the DMV to find out what was going on, it has been nearly a month since I sent in the form,(well Craig did actually). Well, bummer, they are only open one Friday of the month and today was not it, bugger, so that meant I would have to stay until Monday morning. No problems, I headed over to drop the car off and I called Craig to come and pick me up, while there waiting I saw this street dude, he had a very well organised system of rubbish collection, nearly a professional 🙂
Once back at Craigs, I started to sort out plane tickets. As I was now going to stay here another night, I would not have time to drive the two days up to Salt Lake City, not unless it was arrive then depart the next morning. So I sorted a ticket for Monday arvo and also started to plan the other two car legs, from SLC to Las Vegas for a two night stopover then the drive from LV to Los Angeles, pick up my left luggage and get to the airport. It was good to catch up with Lisa and Craig again and don’t forget Bailey the skunk K9. It was a very early night for me because at 9.30 I was nodding off, but considering I was on a time zone 5 hours ahead, it was no no wonder, it actually felt like my normal bedtime of 1am!
Day –0 miles and km
Trip – 54,042 miles and 86,972 km
