Day 9 – 27th August

Posted by TravellingStrom on August 27, 2008

This was my neighbour last night, did not actually meet him, but he had a funny bike. It looked like he was a permanant residant of the van park.

After breaking camp, dropped into the computer shop to do another update and try and modify the blog layout, I wanted to add a “go to top of page” button at the bottom of each page. It kept on coming up with a 404 error, so I will try again later

I headed west late morning, but only got as far as Atherton before pulling over and adding wet gear, it was cold as well and still quite blowey. Not heavy rain, just a drizzle, enough to be annoying, it made the twisty bits quite entertaining with the tyres Ihad on 🙂

I eventually got to Ravenshoe, the windiest point in Queensland, no wonder they put these wind generators here

After some lunch I stopped in at the Millman Falls, these are the widest water falls in Australia, but only 13m high. A small 1km section of dirt to the carpark, then a 300m walk down this track, don’t forget, that is also a 300m walk back up 🙂

And the track out

On a bit further at Innot, roadworks held up both ways, it got quite steamy and it was starting to clear up as well.

I eventually passed the turnoff to Undara Lava Tubes and 50km further on stopped at Mount Surprise. A small town, but the caravan park was right next to the pub!!! I booked in and also a tour for the next morning of the Lava tubes and set up my tent. I was greeted by the local watch geese

Did some small repair work on the bike, new shunt for the charge guard finally fitted, fixed my sunglasses with the yew beaut glue I bought at the AGM and had some beer and a feed up at the pub. I am not religeous, far from it, but I did like these two versions of the lords prayer for guys and gals that I saw on the wall:) 🙂

Day – 262km
Trip – 2846km
