Monday – Dawson City, Yukon, Canada
Rest and recuperation is the order of the day
Yep, of course sleeping in helped and by the time I woke up, the bikers and the girls had left, as did the other Harley riders next to me, who I had not met anyway. I did get vertical around lunchtime and proceeded to sit up in the shade near the office where I plugged into power and started to get caught up on the blog. This took ages of course and most of the afternoon was gone by the time I was done with 3 days worth. The connection slowed down real bad around 6pm because of all the extra campers using the bandwidth, so I gave up after posting day 229.
So, I got dressed and went into town, I needed food badly, I had a few mars bars during the day, but that was it. I went back to the Downtown pub for another hamburger, just as good as last night’s! 🙂
After that I went down to the river for a look, there is an old paddle wheel steamer in dry dock and some interesting history boards around as well.
I had heard about the CanCan show at one of the local places, so I headed for that around 7.30pm, on the way I spotted an old Clydesdale, he looked tired.
Then on to Diamond Tooth Gerties, it has a great name and is basically a casino with stage shows etc and of course beer.
I was cashed up, because during the day while on the net I had checked my account and the money had been put through, so I had decided to have a bit of fun 🙂 Blackjack is the name of the game and I had a small winning streak, probably beginners luck 🙂
The stage show started at 8.30 and was a musical type thing with singers, tap dancers and the girls doing the CanCan of course. The photos are atrocious, but with a flash they did not work and without they are blurred, or it could be my eyes after a few beers 🙂 Of course I am posting this outside where I can barely see the screen anyway, so they may be good photos 🙂
After the half hour show I went back to the tables and started to learn how to play the game, the dealers are very helpful and being cautious with small bets I was having fun and not losing, which is way better 🙂 This is Cari, my waitress 🙂
Check out this bit of luck, if you split a pair of aces, you only get one card, I managed to get two BlackJacks in one go 🙂
A few more beers and things got more exciting, this time I split the tens, then again, then again, the maximum split is 4, but I had four bets on the go and won as well 🙂
And a group of fire bombers were here having some fun, I have all their names, but not who is which, but Lisa is the easiest to work out, but then there is Pat, Boyd, Peter and Terry 🙂
It was a late night, they closed at 2am and we got kicked out, I staggered home with my winnings, only down for my beer money 🙂 It would be another rest day tomorrow, finish off the catching up, then do some minor bike repairs and maybe do some sightseeing, who knows. I do know my right middle finger is very sore, that is from riding standing up and trying to keep control of the front brake while having a stretched out arm, hopefully it will get better before I head out into more dirt on the ‘Top of the World Highway’ in a few days time.
Day 0 miles and 0 km
Trip – 27,620 miles and 44,450 km
