RTW Day 1
Posted by TravellingStrom on August 1, 2008
Well, finally after weeks of finalising things, closing down the flat, and the business etc I am ready to go. I have been crook with a wog for the past week, so I am a bit fatigued and stressed out. I decided to stay away from the dirt until I had my strength back.
I still decided to to do the inland route and after a few final bits of packing I am ready to go.
My lucky parents who had to put up with me for the past few days 🙂
Loaded and ready to go
The view from the Marlborough range, very nice area
The map had a big gap, but the road I took goes past Lotus Creek, this is my goal, the Sarina Ranges
My first breakage. After nearly two years of having the GPS on a handlebar mount and always moving, I finally got a RAM ball and moved it to the mirror mount, the damm thing snapped clean off and lucky I have a camera strap on it or it would have dissapeared!! Pissed off I was, only managed to get 135km!!
That is the threaded section still stuck in the mirror mount, very annoying
Anyway, continued on, like I had a choice 🙂 I eventually arrived in Grasstree Beach at my Mate Shane and Jennys place. Beer time! I had bought a bottle of rum also, so we had some catching up to do. Luckily he has a great shed and is handy mecahnically. I made a decision, GPS or UHF Radio(which had yet to be wired into the Autocom), GPS was more useful to me, so a bit of cutting, drilling and soldering and within an hour had a new location for the GPS. I sent the radio with Shayne back to Rocky as he was heading down that way on Friday, he will drop it off at my parents, no great loss.
After that, it was time for some drinkies 🙂
